About the Role
This position provides oversight of library locations during evening and weekend hours, ensuring service desk coverage, supervising student employees, and responding to patron inquiries. It acts as a liaison between staff and facilities, ensuring safe and clean patron spaces. The role requires adaptability to new technologies, managing multiple priorities, and strong organizational and communication skills.
Responsibilities
- Oversee library operations during evening and weekend hours.
- Open and/or close library locations.
- Provide service at assigned library locations.
- Check in/out library materials.
- Respond to inquiries in person, over the phone, and online.
- Assist with retrieval and shelving of library materials and stacks maintenance.
- Supervise student employees, including training, scheduling, and task assignment.
- Act as a liaison between evening/weekend staff, daytime staff, facilities, and UPD.
- Provide service desk coverage.
- Process resource sharing and reserve requests.
- Answer library user questions and refer complex reference questions.
- Assist with all aspects of Circulation Services.
- Assist patrons at public computers.
- Maintain appropriate statistics using library services platform (LSP), gate counts, and other methods.
- May supervise a library aide.
- Coordinate and participate in daily stacks maintenance and delivery operations.
- Assign and monitor daily shelving and delivery work.
- Establish procedures and train employees and student employees.
- Maintain technical competency and skills through professional development.
- Participate in department and University-wide committees, events, and professional organizations.
- Perform other duties or projects as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree (foreign equivalent or higher).
- Demonstrated proficiency using productivity and collaboration tools, including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) and Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Calendar).
- Demonstrated experience providing high-quality customer service in a fast-paced, public-facing setting (e.g., academic support services, libraries, hospitality, or similar), including effectively resolving user concerns and maintaining a welcoming environment.
- Supervisory experience, including training, scheduling, or overseeing staff or student employees.
- Ability to learn and adapt to new software applications and technologies.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously in a high-volume environment.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Attention to detail.
- Knowledge and consistent application of Access Services policies.
- Full working knowledge of the library services platform, including all functions in regard to patron files, processing of holds and receipt of library fine or fee payments, and knowledge of library resources.
- Knowledge of resource sharing policies.
- Ability to use specialized software such as Alma, ILLiad, course management system, and scanning software and tools.
- Knowledge of stacks maintenance best practices.
- Ability to maintain appropriate statistics regularly and meet benchmarks for area.
