About the Role
Join Baker Tilly as a High Net Worth Tax Managing Director and become the go-to expert for high net worth tax matters. Lead a practice, inspire people, and make a significant difference for clients. Our private wealth practice addresses the unique challenges faced by wealthy individuals and privately held business owners, assisting with wealth management, preservation, and transition. You will provide comprehensive strategic income, trust, estate, gift tax, succession planning, valuation, and international tax services. Collaborate with firm leadership, mentor talented staff, and leverage Baker Tilly's entrepreneurial environment.
Responsibilities
- Lead compliance and consulting services for high-net-worth individuals, multi-generational affluent families, family offices, and their private businesses/investment entities.
- Perform technical review of complex individual, partnership, S-corp, trust, estate, gift, and state tax returns.
- Lead multiple engagements delivering proactive tax planning and strategic consulting, including federal, estate, gift, charitable planning, and generation-skipping tax.
- Advise and recommend business succession planning strategies to clients.
- Stay updated on tax trends, developments, and technical authorities, applying them to complex situations.
- Manage client engagement staffing, billings, collections, and ensure client profitability targets are met.
- Utilize entrepreneurial skills to network and build internal/external relationships for client and revenue acquisition.
- Invest in personal professional development and participate in firm-wide learning programs.
- Support team member growth and development through the Baker Tilly Care and Teach philosophy.
- Participate in social activities and team outings that promote work-life balance.
Requirements
- An undergraduate degree in accounting or law is required.
- CPA or JD is required.
- Experience as a leader in a public accounting firm's Tax practice.
- Eight (8)+ years of experience in tax planning and consulting for wealthy individuals, family members, trusts, investment entities, and private businesses.
- Strong experience in personal taxation, trust taxation, estate & gift taxation, and charitable taxation, with exposure to flow-through entities, partnership taxation, and corporate taxation.
- Four (4)+ years of supervisory experience, including mentoring and counseling associates.
- Ability to lead and supervise others.
- Ability to provide exceptional client service.
- Commitment to continuous learning to stay current on applicable strategies.
- Ability to see the 'big picture' and the details.
- Demonstrate appropriate ethical knowledge and commitment.
- Exhibit a sense of urgency and commitment to quality and timely project completion.
- Eligibility to work in the U.S. without sponsorship is highly preferred.
- Ability to travel as needed for client engagements.
