About the Role
Assist with the mechanical design of various products within the Stryker Endoscopy portfolio, focusing on hand-held medical imaging products. This role involves a blend of design, testing, technical writing, and quality management system development, offering an opportunity to learn about medical device design, development, and implementation within a quality management system.
Responsibilities
- Release Engineering Change Orders (ECO’s) of Device Master Record (DMR) documents into Agile or Arena Product Lifecycle Management software.
- Evaluate mechanical design options and conduct bench testing to determine acceptability criteria and optimal solutions within a constrained timeline.
- Provide progress updates in meetings as required.
- Create test protocols, conduct tests, and generate test reports.
- Identify vendors and liaise in support of prototyping and new product development.
- Design and build test fixtures and jigs to support verification and product testing.
- Assist in the assembly of prototype devices.
- Develop opto-mechanical jigs & fixtures.
- Support the project manager as required.
- Develop Quality Management System DHF/DMR for new and existing products, including documentation, meetings, and cross-functional team liaison.
- Participate in front-end conceptual design and engineering activities for new products.
- Source components and identify appropriate vendors.
- Conduct product and component testing, including early laboratory prototypes and formal product verification testing.
- Design test setups and testing conditions to investigate options for improving device performance.
- Work with vendor engineers to design systems and perform evaluations and experiments during early design stages.
- Participate in design reviews, risk management, and associated risk control assessments.
- Understand and follow proper procedures and best practices, and work with senior engineers to improve them.
- Contribute to and respect team decisions, strive for and abide by consensus, and operate within Company core values.
- Contribute to project planning and commit to deliverable goals.
- Proactively report progress to project management and R&D management when required.
- Take direction from senior engineers and R&D managers, complete tasks with minimal guidance, and use resources responsibly and effectively.
- Proactively seek out senior technical leaders and managers as necessary.
Requirements
- Self-managed and self-motivated.
- Hands-on problem-solving skills.
- Fluent with MS Office applications (Word, Excel, etc.).
- Experience in 3D CAD modeling software, preferably SolidWorks.
- Experience with Product Lifecycle Management software, Agile PLM or similar.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proven ability to write procedures and present complex problems and solutions.
- Sedentary work: Exerting up to 10 kilograms of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently to lift, carry, etc. generally involves sitting most of the time.
- Must be able to communicate with groups of people.
- Must be able to review printed materials.
- Ability to use common office equipment.
