About the Role

The Financial Aid Counselor provides direct counseling and support to students in Basic Science programs, guiding them through the financial aid lifecycle from application to repayment. This role acts as a trusted advisor, ensuring compliance with federal and private loan regulations while promoting financial literacy and effective debt management.

Responsibilities

  • Counsel students on federal and private loan programs, eligibility, and application processes.
  • Provide individualized credit, debt management, and private loan counseling.
  • Guide students through entrance and exit loan counseling and VA processes.
  • Maintain accurate student records in Banner and Salesforce.
  • Review and evaluate financial aid applications and ISIRs to determine eligibility.
  • Package federal and private loans in accordance with DOE regulations.
  • Develop and deliver financial literacy workshops and presentations.
  • Collaborate with Admissions, Registrar, Bursar, and Student Affairs departments.
  • Monitor financial aid reports to ensure accuracy of disbursements and loan eligibility.
  • Assist in audit preparation and compliance reporting.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred.
  • 2–3 years of professional experience in financial aid, banking, lending, or student services.
  • Direct experience with loan processing, FAFSA verification, disbursements, and electronic data transmissions preferred.
  • Familiarity with Title IV, NSLDS, COD, and private lender regulations.
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends during peak periods.
  • Availability for occasional travel for admissions events or orientations.

Skills

  • In-depth knowledge of Title IV federal aid programs.
  • Proficiency in Banner (RHACOMM) and Salesforce.
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Office 365, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Strong counseling and advising abilities.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and analytical abilities.

Work Type

  • Full-time
  • 37.5 hours per week
  • Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m.

Experience Level

  • 2–3 years of professional experience

Education Level

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Master’s degree preferred

Salary/Compensations

  • $50,000 – $55,000 per year
