About the Role
Develop and lead competitive youth hockey teams that travel regionally and nationally, fostering athletic growth, teamwork, and sportsmanship. Design and implement comprehensive training programs, serve as a mentor, and manage team logistics.
Responsibilities
- Develop and execute practice plans that improve individual skills and team strategies.
- Coach players during games and tournaments, making real-time decisions to optimize team performance.
- Manage team travel arrangements, including scheduling, transportation, and accommodations.
- Communicate regularly with players, parents, and league officials to provide updates and address concerns.
- Promote a positive, respectful, and inclusive team environment that encourages sportsmanship and personal growth.
Requirements
- Proven experience coaching youth hockey at a competitive level, preferably in travel or club programs.
- Strong knowledge of hockey rules, tactics, and player development techniques.
- Ability to obtain and maintain relevant coaching certifications and background checks as required by local and national hockey organizations.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with players, parents, and staff.
- Availability to travel with the team for games and tournaments, often on weekends and holidays.
- Certification from recognized hockey coaching programs such as USA Hockey’s Coaching Education Program.
- Experience working with diverse age groups and skill levels within youth hockey.
- First aid and CPR certification to ensure player safety during practices and games.
- Demonstrated success in leading teams to competitive achievements or championships.
- Strong organizational skills with experience managing team logistics and schedules.
