About the Role
SPCA Westchester is seeking a compassionate and motivated Canine Enrichment & Care Assistant to provide exercise, enrichment, and socialization for shelter dogs, supporting their well-being and adoption chances.
Responsibilities
- Walking dogs and providing regular daily exercise
- Facilitating structured enrichment and play activities
- Assisting with supervised dog playgroups
- Supporting basic training and behavior exercises as directed by the Behavior Team
- Providing positive socialization opportunities for dogs of varying temperaments and energy levels
- Safely handling dogs while following shelter safety and handling protocols
Requirements
- Reliable, patient, and comfortable handling dogs of various breeds, sizes, and temperaments
- Experience walking dogs professionally (e.g., dog walking service, daycare, boarding facility, veterinary clinic, or animal shelter)
- Comfort handling medium to large dogs who may pull on leash
- Ability to remain calm and attentive when working with animals in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to walk multiple dogs and remain active throughout the workday
- Interest in canine behavior, enrichment, and animal welfare
- Shelter or animal welfare experience is preferred but not required
