About the Role

SPCA Westchester is seeking a compassionate and motivated Canine Enrichment & Care Assistant to provide exercise, enrichment, and socialization for shelter dogs, supporting their well-being and adoption chances.

Responsibilities

  • Walking dogs and providing regular daily exercise
  • Facilitating structured enrichment and play activities
  • Assisting with supervised dog playgroups
  • Supporting basic training and behavior exercises as directed by the Behavior Team
  • Providing positive socialization opportunities for dogs of varying temperaments and energy levels
  • Safely handling dogs while following shelter safety and handling protocols

Requirements

  • Reliable, patient, and comfortable handling dogs of various breeds, sizes, and temperaments
  • Experience walking dogs professionally (e.g., dog walking service, daycare, boarding facility, veterinary clinic, or animal shelter)
  • Comfort handling medium to large dogs who may pull on leash
  • Ability to remain calm and attentive when working with animals in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to walk multiple dogs and remain active throughout the workday
  • Interest in canine behavior, enrichment, and animal welfare
  • Shelter or animal welfare experience is preferred but not required
