About the Role
The Editorial Assistant will play a key role in supporting the Century fiction team across a diverse and bestselling list, acting as the organizational backbone by managing diaries, coordinating meetings, and ensuring publishing schedules run smoothly. This role offers hands-on editorial experience, from reviewing submissions to researching cover concepts and collaborating with colleagues across departments.
Responsibilities
- Manage diaries, coordinate meetings, and keep projects on track.
- Ensure publishing schedules run smoothly.
- Support the Publishing Director and Senior Commissioning Editor on their publishing.
- Gain hands-on editorial experience, including reading and providing feedback on submissions.
- Research cover concepts.
- Work on backlist titles.
- Collaborate with colleagues across departments.
- Help send out book proofs.
- Contribute ideas to publishing discussions.
Requirements
- Organized and detail-driven, able to juggle a busy workload with confidence and care.
- Attention to detail is a must.
- Confident communicator, happy to share opinions and ideas in meetings and contribute to lively editorial discussions.
- Engaging and collaborative, with a positive, can-do attitude and enthusiasm for working closely with colleagues and authors.
- Passionate reader and eager to champion new stories and voices.
- Curious and proactive, keen to learn, take initiative, and make a real impact in the team.
- Proven written ability, showcased through your application and cover letter.
- Experience/Knowledge of MS Office Excel/Word/Outlook.
- Previous publishing experience isn’t essential.
