About the Role
Campus Ministry at Fairfield strives to be a home where all can engage questions of faith and justice, worship and pray together, and serve communities. This role implements Ignatian formation of immersion teams and leaders, oversees immersion opportunities, leads justice programming, and serves as a pastoral resource.
Responsibilities
- Oversees the St. Oscar Romero International Immersion, the Spring Break Domestic Immersion program, and Weekend immersions.
- Coordinates justice programming, ensuring a 'faith' that does justice' is interwoven in the work.
- Prepares for the annual IFTJ trip.
- Creates and moderates a student group (e.g., Students for Social Justice).
- Facilitates conversations and advocacy on justice issues.
- Collaborates with partners in Academics, the Center for Social Impact, and the Office of Student Diversity and Multicultural Affairs.
- Supports local service, community organizing, and the campus food pantry in collaboration with the Center for Social Impact and student wellness staff at Bellarmine campus.
- Provides pastoral counseling and spiritual accompaniment to students, faculty, administrators, and staff, primarily at Bellarmine Campus.
- Engages in intentional one-on-one meetings.
- Provides pastoral counseling to students, faculty, and staff.
- Addresses spiritual and social issues impacting the campus.
- Responds to community crises and emergencies.
- Serves as chaplain for Bellarmine campus students and graduate students.
- Participates in staff meetings and development opportunities at Bellarmine Campus.
- Participates in the professional growth and development of the Office of Campus Ministry.
- Promotes an image of efficiency and courtesy consistent with Campus Ministry’s mission.
- Participates in staff meetings as requested.
- Acts as a collaborative team member.
- Serves as a responsible committee member as requested.
- Communicates effectively with supervisor regarding departmental and/or University matters.
- Promotes safe and secure working conditions.
- Promotes the proper utilization of equipment, staff, and materials.
- Reports any unsafe working conditions immediately to supervisor.
- Performs other related duties as directed.
- Plans, organizes, and supervises the setup of liturgies and prayer services.
- Serves as an adult leader on retreats.
- Chaperones domestic or international immersion trips.
Requirements
- Master’s Degree in Theology, Divinity, or Pastoral Ministry.
- 2 years of experience within a college or university Campus Ministry environment.
- Demonstrated experience with deep engagement with first-generation students, non-traditional students, and/or students in 2-year degree programs.
- Practicing Catholic preferred.
- Exposure to highly confidential information.
- Evening and weekends in addition to five days a week.
- This is an 11-month position.
Skills
- Deep knowledge of Ignatian Spirituality, Ignatian formation, Catholic Social Teaching, and Social Justice.
- Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills.
