About the Role

This position will serve as the 4-H Camp Educator for Cornell Cooperative Extension Association of Franklin County, responsible for supporting the organization within established policies and guidelines. The role involves delivering 4-H Camp Educational Programs and activities, assisting with program setup and cleanup, supervising participants, and adhering to safety procedures. The educator will represent Cornell Cooperative Extension professionally and embrace diversity in all interactions.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver 4-H educational programming to camp participants utilizing pre-written lesson plans.
  • Participate enthusiastically in all camp activities and lead assigned activities.
  • Apply basic youth development principles in working with youth.
  • Serve as a subject matter resource in the 4-H Youth Development area.
  • Implement lesson plans using current and approved curricula and supplemental materials.
  • Teach programs that address participant needs and consider community diversity.
  • Assist in providing educational program efforts via mass media.
  • Assist in providing 4-H Youth Development Educational Programs using established resources and materials.
  • Assist with carrying out other duties as assigned in support of 4-H programming efforts.
  • Implement program evaluation as designed.
  • Assist in interacting with program participants to obtain their evaluation of program offerings.
  • Promote programming and engagement for Camp Overlook and Cornell Cooperative Extension Association of Franklin County.
  • Assist in the supervision and organization of participants at camp.
  • Be aware of and implement safety guidelines.
  • Follow and uphold all safety and security rules and procedures.
  • Monitor the condition of equipment and facilities and report needed repairs.
  • Enforce all camp health and safety standards.
  • Maintain high standards of health and safety in all activities for participants and staff.
  • Assist in preparation and setup for camp programming.
  • Assist in a variety of events/activities at 4-H Camp Overlook.
  • Assist in the completion of all required reporting, accountability and evaluation documentation.
  • Assist in the daily upkeep of camp facilities.
  • Be a role model to campers and staff in attitude and behavior.
  • Represent 4-H Camp Overlook in initial contact with participants.
  • Maintain professional relationships with other agencies, organizations and businesses.
  • Transport program materials and resources as needed.
  • Coordinate, create, and advertise event programs and materials.
  • Develop and pursue a professional development plan.
  • Collaborate in activities that are in general support of Cornell Cooperative Extension.
  • Support the association to maintain a safe working environment.
  • Act proactively to prevent accidents/injuries and communicate hazards to supervisors.

Requirements

  • Associate’s Degree or Equivalent Educator (GED/High School Diploma and one (1) year transferrable program/functional experience).
  • Experience relevant to the role of the position.
  • Must demonstrate knowledge and/or skill in camp program area(s) including arts and crafts, nature and outdoor education, adventure challenge course, archery, waterfront, and recreation with emphasis on Ropes Course Challenges.
  • Ability to communicate effectively through oral, written and visual means.
  • Ability to relate to youth and adults in a positive manner.
  • Willingness to learn and understand the developmental needs of youth of all ages.
  • Ability to work flexible hours which may include evenings and/or weekends, as appropriate.
  • Demonstrated ability to meet the demands of assigned tasks.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a variety of settings, including outdoors.
  • Demonstrated initiative, reliability and dependability.
  • Demonstrated ability to organize, implement and teach informal educational programs.
  • Demonstrated ability to participate in professional team efforts.
