About the Role
The Division Chief, Preparedness is responsible for working on a broad array of policy and operational efforts within the organization in support of collaborative partnerships at all levels of government. This role will work with agency leadership to recommend solutions to complex problems, research current law/policies/data, draft policy/regulations, and serve as a liaison to integrate efforts with intergovernmental partner agencies. The position may oversee special programs related to information management, safety/security/training, operational innovation, specific events, mission objectives, policy messaging, analysis, and program management, collaborating with agency leadership across all phases of emergency management.
Responsibilities
- May develop strategic plan for a division.
- May serve on departmental leadership team.
- May direct division staff, setting performance standards and accountabilities.
- Ensures that programs, activities, and services comply with University, State, and Federal regulations.
- May have input into the budget and fiscal operations of the division.
- Develops and seeks funding for programs to promote division mission.
- Oversees communications for the division.
- May liaise and integrate efforts with intergovernmental partner agencies.
- Develops and implements division programs, and recommends solutions to complex problems/issues.
- Serves on various University, division, and departmental committees and represents the department at various State and National associations.
- Plans, assigns, and supervises the work of others.
- Face-to-face and person-to-person interactions are required.
- Maintains a regular course of attendance during authorized work schedule and works extended hours when needed.
- Ability to travel (20%).
- Performs related work as assigned.
Requirements
- Must hold or be eligible to hold a U.S. Government Top-Secret/Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) security clearance.
- Master's degree or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
- Ten (10) years of progressively responsible management positions.
- Three (3) years of supervisory experience.
- Additional work experience of the type described above may be substituted for the education requirement on a year- for- year basis (30 semester hours is equivalent to one year of experience).
- A completed advanced degree in a relevant field may also be substituted in lieu of work experience.
- Must complete IS-100, IS-200, IS-700, and IS-800 training courses within the first twelve (12) months of employment.
- Applicants are subject to a criminal history investigation, and employment is contingent upon the institution’s verification of credentials and/or other information required by the institution’s procedures, including the completion of the criminal history check.

- Ability to scrutinize data/information, discern variations/similarities, and identify trends, relationships, and causal factors, as well as grasp issues, draw accurate conclusions, and solve problems.
- Proficiency with utilized software and systems and ability to learn new software/systems.
- Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
- Responsible in the handling of sensitive and confidential information, and situations.
- Adherence to applicable laws/statutes/policies related to access, maintenance, and dissemination of information.
- Ability to maintain the security and integrity of critical infrastructure.
