About the Role
This R&D Co-op – New Product Development position offers a hands-on learning opportunity for a Mechanical or Biomedical Engineering student to develop next-generation technology for the ENT franchise, focusing on minimally invasive surgical procedures.
Responsibilities
- Apply engineering principles to design, build, test, and troubleshoot new product concepts.
- Develop test methods and equipment, execute test protocols, and generate engineering test reports.
- Create and modify designs using 3D CAD software and generate drawings for vendor quotes.
- Utilize rapid prototyping equipment and other methods to create prototypes.
- Collaborate with the onsite machine shop for component fabrication and fixture creation.
- Engage with the engineering team to undertake technical activities and solve challenges.
- Potentially utilize CFD and advanced test equipment for mechanical and performance testing.
- Conduct benchtop performance testing to evaluate device performance.
- Support procurement of materials and items for R&D projects.
- Assist with onsite testing and occasional work at third-party contract labs.
Requirements
- Currently enrolled in an accredited engineering program pursuing a Mechanical or Biomedical Engineering degree.
- Must have completed Sophomore year or higher.
- Prior work experience (internship, co-op, part-time, apprenticeship, or hands-on research lab experience) is preferred.
- Understanding of core engineering principles and foundational coursework through Sophomore year.
- Some working knowledge of 3D CAD software and basic prototyping and assembly methods.
- Strong hands-on experience in hobbies, work, or school research projects.
- Interest in lab-based engineering work.
- Experience executing lab testing, writing test protocols and/or reports, analyzing data, and drawing conclusions.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with high attention to detail.
- Demonstrated organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to prioritize multiple activities.
- Must be able to work for two consecutive semesters (June to December) full-time.
- Part-time coursework may be possible with manager approval.
- This position does not offer visa transfer or sponsorship now or in the future.
