About the Role
The Army Software Factory (ASWF) operates like a modern, high-growth technology startup within the federal government, transforming Soldiers into software engineers through real-world development. This role focuses on practicing modern engineering practices like CI/CD and TDD, and directly impacting Soldiers through coaching and mentorship.
Responsibilities
- Write production code side-by-side with Soldiers daily.
- Champion and model Extreme Programming (XP) practices, including Test-Driven Development (TDD), continuous refactoring, and pair programming.
- Collaborate with Product Managers, Product Designers, and Platform Engineers in balanced teams.
- Guide the design, implementation, and deployment of robust full-stack applications using modern frameworks.
- Coach Soldiers to progressively own architecture and development, eventually leading teams.
Requirements
- 10 years of experience as a Software Engineer.
- 3 years of experience in the DoD.
- 5 years of experience coaching and training senior and intermediate developers in software planning, requirements, risk management, design, development, architecture, modeling, estimation, configuration management, quality, security, and tests.
- Fluent in test-driven development, lean methodology, and DevSecOps.
- Knowledge of Java, C#, Spring Boot, PHP, Typescript/JavaScript, NodeJs, Python, Kotlin, or similar programming languages.
- Ability to transform and visualize data as needed.
- Must be eligible to obtain an Interim Secret Clearance.
