About the Role

The London Borough of Harrow is seeking an experienced Senior Internal Communications Officer to lead and enhance internal communications and employee engagement. This role ensures employees receive clear, timely, and accessible information about organizational priorities and transformation programs, fostering a well-informed and engaged workforce.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and deliver strategic communication and engagement plans supporting corporate priorities, organizational change, and cultural development.
  • Create compelling content across various channels including intranet platforms, newsletters, leadership communications, digital screens, and staff events.
  • Provide trusted advice to senior stakeholders on complex, sensitive, and high-profile issues.
  • Ensure communications are clear, consistent, and aligned with the Council’s values.
  • Play a key role in crisis and incident communications, delivering effective messaging during fast-moving situations.
  • Use insight, analytics, and staff feedback to continuously improve communications and engagement activity.
  • Support the strengthening of organizational culture and positive change.

Requirements

  • Experience delivering internal communications across a complex organization.
  • Excellent writing and editing skills, producing clear, accurate, and engaging content.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, including working with senior leaders.
  • Experience supporting organizational change through effective communications.
  • Strong planning and organizational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities.
  • Knowledge of internal communications best practices, channels, and employee engagement approaches.
  • Experience developing and delivering communication campaigns across multiple channels.
  • Ability to analyze engagement data and feedback to improve communications activity.
  • Knowledge of accessibility standards, plain English, and user-centered communications.
  • Ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, and deliver high-quality communications in a fast-paced environment.
