About the Role

The Town of Sullivan is seeking qualified, experienced Heavy Equipment Operators for road and bridge maintenance and construction. This role involves operating various heavy equipment, performing manual tasks, and minor automotive repairs.

Responsibilities

• Operates power shovel, bulldozer, power grader, crane, bucket loader, and other heavy equipment for road and bridge construction and maintenance.
• Operates equipment for snow removal, refuse collection, and material transportation.
• Operates heavy equipment for tasks such as cutting banks, digging ditches, removing stumps, and stripping gravel pits.
• Performs semi-skilled maintenance and repair work on assigned equipment.
• Performs manual tasks including loading/unloading trucks, digging ditches, spreading asphalt, cutting trees and brush, cleaning culverts, raking blacktop, shoveling snow, and painting.
• May patrol highways during winter for snow removal and ice control.
• May supervise the work of others.

Requirements

• One (1) year of full-time paid experience, or its part-time equivalent, in the operation of specialized or heavy motor equipment.
• Two (2) years of full-time paid experience, or its part-time equivalent, in the operation of lighter automotive equipment.
• An equivalent combination of training and experience.
• Ability to work on-call, as needed.
