About the Role
The Healthcare Assistant will assist the Practice clinical team in the provision and delivery of prescribed programmes of patient care, working under the direct supervision of the Senior Practice Nurse and Senior GP, and strictly in accordance with specific Practice guidelines and protocols. Previous General Practice (GP) experience and confidence working within a primary care environment are essential. Experience using the EMIS clinical system is also required.
Responsibilities
- Perform new patient health checks, NHS Health checks, Diabetes foot checks, Asthma checks, CRM checks, 1st part of SMI checks, and Blood pressure checks.
- Conduct 24-hour BP monitoring.
- Record ECGs.
- Perform phlebotomy.
- Conduct spirometry.
- Undertake chaperoning duties.
- Administer B12 injections and flu vaccines on a named patient basis.
- Process and manage laboratory samples requested by GPs/Nurses.
- Sterilize, cleanse, and maintain surgical equipment.
- Manage vaccine/cold chain storage, monitoring, and recording.
- Restock and rotate surgical equipment and vaccines.
- Clear and restock consulting rooms.
- Prepare and maintain environments and equipment before, during, and after patient care interventions, including assisting GPs during minor operations.
- Assist in the assessment and surveillance of patients’ health and well-being, including providing simple lifestyle and dietary advice.
- Undertake specific clinical activities for named patients that have been delegated and taught specifically in relation to that individual.
- Help raise awareness of health and well-being and how it can be promoted.
- Assist with the collection and collation of data relating to health and well-being.
- Undertake infection control training and update it periodically.
- Participate in all infection control measures within the practice following current procedures and protocols.
- Maintain confidentiality of patient and practice information.
- Assist in promoting and maintaining own and others’ health, safety and security.
- Support equality, diversity, and rights of patients, carers, and colleagues.
- Participate in training programs, including annual individual performance reviews.

Requirements
- Previous experience working as a Healthcare Assistant within a GP Practice setting.
- Experience using the EMIS clinical system.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary primary care team.
- Good communication skills.
- Ability to provide high-quality patient care.

- Undertake infection control training and update it periodically.
