About the Role

The Teaching Assistant at Wildwood School supports students with autism spectrum disorders and developmental disabilities by reinforcing learning concepts and assisting with daily educational activities to foster student independence.

Responsibilities

  • Assist students individually or in groups with specialized instructional programs.
  • Support teachers in developing and utilizing instructional resources and materials.
  • Monitor student activities in hallways, cafeterias, playgrounds, and during arrival and dismissal.
  • Attend to students' physical needs, including personal hygiene and clothing assistance.
  • Implement behavior management strategies to increase student participation.
  • Perform clerical tasks such as attendance reporting and organizing classroom materials.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Daily access to a personal vehicle for student transportation.
  • NYS Teaching Assistant Certification or eligibility to obtain and maintain it.
  • Complete and pass CALM training, including de-escalation and protective holds.
