About the Role
TwelveLabs builds multimodal foundation models and products for multimodal intelligence and orchestration. This role will own and build internal products to support model evaluation, regression testing, dataset discovery, and agentic context curation. This is a hybrid, high autonomy role and the first on this team, offering full ownership and the drive to implement mission-critical internal products for all members of TwelveLabs.
Responsibilities
- Unify the internal data and evaluation platform, integrating internal beta access, evaluation, regression, and dataset discovery/cataloging products into one maintainable system.
- Build a secure access layer over very large data, making internal data discoverable and queryable across cloud environments at petabyte scale with necessary access controls and PII handling.
- Integrate customer feedback and usage data from the self-serve product to ground datasets and evaluations in actual customer behavior.
- Help build and harden the internal agent used by the product team for content curation across tools and data, moving it from prototype to wider organizational use with proper access controls.
Requirements
- Strong backend engineer with depth in at least one language (Python, Go, or similar) and experience designing robust data models, services, and APIs.
- Genuine system design instinct with the ability to take an ambiguous problem, define solutions, and make defensible architectural decisions.
- Proven track record of building zero to one internal products and successfully shipping them.
- Comfortable as the primary or sole engineer building foundations for a larger team.
- Ability to own a product from scoping and building to shipping and supporting internal users, while aligning with science, product, and go-to-market strategies.
- Experience with large unstructured datasets.
- Full stack capability, able to stand up a usable interface when needed, with a backend focus.
- Experience with data platform, lakehouse, or pipeline across object storage, warehouses, and multiple clouds.
- Experience reasoning about multimodal unstructured data (video, audio, images, text).
- Experience building or integrating AI agents, MCP servers, retrieval systems, or evaluation tooling.
- Experience with data governance, access control, or PII handling on production data.
- 0-1 achiever, a ferocious learner, and a kind and fun team player who motivates others.
