About the Role

As a Senior Lead Pharmacy Technician in Specialty Pharmacy, you will serve as the operational leader for pharmacy technician teams, ensuring high-quality patient care, regulatory compliance, and efficient specialty medication management. This challenging and rewarding role requires working within multiple computer systems simultaneously in a fast-paced, high-volume environment where members depend on accurate and efficient delivery of important medications. You will act as the bridge between frontline technicians, pharmacists, and pharmacy leadership, supporting optimal patient outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, mentor, train, and coach Specialty Pharmacy Technicians
  • Provide daily oversight of workflow and staffing assignments
  • Monitor team productivity and quality metrics
  • Assist with performance evaluations and competency assessments
  • Support onboarding and training of new technicians
  • Serve as a subject matter expert for specialty pharmacy operations
  • Coordinate specialty medication, fulfillment and distribution
  • Manage prior authorization and benefits investigation workflows
  • Communicate with patients regarding medication delivery and support services
  • Collaborate with pharmacists, providers, manufacturers, and payers
  • Escalate complex patient issues to pharmacists when appropriate
  • Lead benefits verification and coverage determination activities
  • Ensure compliance with state and federal pharmacy regulations
  • Maintain adherence to URAC, ACHC, and specialty pharmacy accreditation standards
  • Maintain HIPAA compliance and patient confidentiality
  • Oversee specialty medication inventory management
  • Identify opportunities for workflow improvement and operational efficiency
  • Utilize pharmacy management systems and electronic health records

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • Active Pharmacy Technician licensure in the state of New York
  • 5+ years of Pharmacy Technician experience
  • 5+ years of experience in leading teams, mentoring staff, or serving as a lead technician
  • 5+ years of experience with pharmacy software systems and workflow management
  • 1+ years of experience in specialty pharmacy, mail order, infusion, or specialty medication management
  • 1+ years of inventory experience
  • Ability to stand and lift 25 lbs.
  • National Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) through PTCB or ExCPT certification through NHA
  • Strong verbal and written communication
  • Excellent customer service and patient engagement

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities
  • Pass a drug test before beginning employment
