About the Role

The Security Guard is responsible for maintaining a safe, secure, and welcoming environment for participants, families, staff, and visitors. This position supports daily program operations by monitoring facility access, enforcing safety procedures, responding to incidents, and assisting with emergency preparedness efforts, playing a critical role in protecting program participants, staff, and property while fostering a positive, respectful atmosphere.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor facility entrances, exits, hallways, and common areas to ensure a safe and secure environment.
  • Verify visitor access and maintain visitor sign-in and sign-out procedures.
  • Conduct routine patrols and security checks throughout the facility.
  • Monitor program spaces during operating hours and special events.
  • Assist in enforcing facility rules, policies, and safety procedures.
  • Respond appropriately to incidents, emergencies, and safety concerns.
  • De-escalate conflicts and help maintain a calm, orderly environment.
  • Document incidents and prepare reports in accordance with organizational policies.
  • Notify program leadership and emergency personnel when appropriate.
  • Assist with emergency drills, evacuations, and preparedness activities.
  • Greet and assist participants, families, staff, and visitors professionally and respectfully.
  • Provide directions and information as needed.
  • Promote a positive, welcoming, and supportive environment.
  • Support staff in maintaining a safe atmosphere during activities and events.
  • Maintain accurate security logs, incident reports, and visitor records.
  • Ensure compliance with organizational policies, procedures, and safety protocols.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding participant, family, and staff information.
  • Participate in required trainings and professional development opportunities.
  • Support monitoring visits, inspections, and compliance reviews as needed.
  • Assist with special events, family engagement activities, and community programs.
  • Collaborate with program staff to support daily operations.
  • Serve as a positive representative of Hands That Make A Difference.
  • Support efforts to create a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment for all participants.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED preferred.
  • Previous experience in security, safety, law enforcement, customer service, or a related field preferred.
  • Experience working with youth, families, or community-based organizations preferred.
  • Experience in conflict resolution and de-escalation techniques preferred.
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to patrol indoor and outdoor areas.
  • Ability to respond quickly to emergencies and safety concerns.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to work evenings, weekends, and special events as required.
  • Background Check
  • Security Guard License (if required by state or local regulations)
  • Completion of all required DYCD trainings
  • Additional clearances as required by organizational policies
