About the Role
Little Lukes is seeking a Special Education Teacher to join their preschool team. This role involves supporting children with special needs, ages 3 to 5, within an inclusion classroom setting, working alongside a team of educators and therapists.
Responsibilities
- Provide exceptional care and instruction to preschool children with special needs.
- Support the development and education of children within the classroom and alongside the Lead Teacher.
- Teach basic academic, behavior, social interaction, and living skills using behavior modification and positive reinforcement.
- Support the child’s understanding of the curriculum and behavior needs through strong, language-based, one-on-one interaction.
- Implement effective classroom management strategies.
- Help create a positive, engaging, and structured learning environment.
- Set and reinforce classroom expectations and routines.
- Observe, evaluate, and prepare reports on progress for IEPs.
- Document work, including notes, care plans, and ongoing progress, in a paperless electronic record system.
- Prepare goals and instructional materials according to IEP goals.
- Coordinate curriculum implementation with the preschool team.
- Discuss IEP development with parents, administrators, testing specialists, social workers, and others.
Requirements

- Exceptional communication skills (written and verbal).
- Ability to share feedback across teams in a collaborative and solution-oriented way.
- A degree in Special Education with coursework in early childhood.
- An active NYS Special Education certification is a plus, but not required.
