About the Role
Spire London East Hospital is seeking an experienced Medical Secretary to join their team. This role involves providing a full medical secretarial service to consultants, requiring excellent communication skills, computer literacy, and the ability to remain calm under pressure.
Responsibilities
- Provide an efficient secretarial service to all Consultants.
- Type clinic notes and letters to General Practitioners and external agencies within 48-72 hours.
- Answer patient queries with tact and diplomacy, especially on sensitive matters.
- Liaise with Consultants and their secretaries to resolve patient queries/complaints promptly.
- Manage correspondence, telephone calls, and queries for allocated Consultants with high accuracy.
- Communicate effectively with GP surgeries and other healthcare professionals.
- Provide copy clinic letters as needed.
- Open and distribute Consultants' mail.
- Type discharge summaries and operation notes dictated by Consultants.
- Log and distribute incoming clinic/theatre typing, insurance claim forms, and DWP forms.
- Order Consultants' paper and office stationery.
- Liaise closely with Outpatient Department, Medical Records, NHS Team, and other hospital departments.
- Assist in training new and trainee Medical Secretaries.
- Undergo all mandatory training, including fire and health and safety.
- Ensure consistent service provision during holiday/sickness periods by covering private typing.
- Contribute to the development of departmental procedures.
- Familiarize with company policies and procedures.
- Deliver exemplary customer service to consultants, patients, and co-workers.
- Assist with any other reasonable duties as required by the Senior Medical Secretary.
