About the Role

As an Analyst, International Trade Compliance (ITC) for Planet, you will be a member of the ITC Team within Planet’s global Legal organization. You will work on issues with significant compliance and/or financial implications, interfacing with engineers, supply chain, IT, security, and external counsel to mitigate risks and support global trade licensing and operations. Your primary focus will be export/import compliance, with support for economic sanctions and anti-bribery/anti-corruption compliance.

Responsibilities

  • Gaining a deep understanding of Planet’s export-controlled hardware, software, and associated technology in relation to its manufacturing lab space(s) and IT/data repositories.
  • Developing and implementing Technology Control Plans (TCPs) tailored to Planet’s lab and IT environments.
  • Reviewing and approving lab visits and/or lab access requests.
  • Acting as the strategic partner to the manufacturing team to advise on export compliance considerations.
  • Managing physical security and access controls for satellite manufacturing facilities.
  • Conducting regular physical audits of manufacturing spaces to verify that controlled items are properly labeled, stored, and secured.
  • Partnering with laboratory managers and engineering teams to review test setups, research projects, and manufacturing workflows to prevent inadvertent "deemed exports".
  • Collaborating with IT and Security teams to design, implement, and audit logical access controls.
  • Administering and reviewing user access rights within physical spaces and IT repositories containing export-controlled data/software.
  • Participating with IT and Security in the configuration of Identity and Access Management (IAM) systems.
  • Monitoring and working with IT and Security to investigate potential digital compliance anomalies.
  • Other duties, as assigned.

Requirements

  • 2+ years experience in international trade compliance, legal, or contracting
  • Experience reading and applying the ITAR and EAR
  • Ability to work independently as well as with teams
  • Ability to drive results by successfully influencing and aligning stakeholders across multiple departments, even without direct reporting authority
  • Ability to build and maintain excellent working relationships with both internal and external stakeholders
  • This position requires access to export-controlled information, and as such, employment is contingent upon the candidate’s ability to access all applicable export-controlled information without additional export licensing being required.

  • Certified paralegal and/or experience in a legal environment
  • Experience of working in a dynamic, startup environment
  • Technical/engineering background and/or experience of applying ITAR and EAR in satellites and earth observation industry
  • Professional export compliance certifications
  • Experience applying ITAR and EAR controls in a global organization
  • Experience working in a manufacturing lab
  • Experience with software and technology data repositories
