About the Role

Develops and leads high-quality, developmentally appropriate programs for children to foster their physical, social, emotional, and cognitive growth. This role also leads the implementation of programs and activities that promote the inclusion and integration of children with special needs, while supporting a team environment within the classroom and the Centre.

Responsibilities

• Plan and organize a safe environment and supervise children to protect their safety and well-being.
• Maintain equipment and the physical environment free of safety or health hazards.
• Plan, execute, and evaluate daily programming using the agency's approved curriculum and approach to promote children's optimal development.
• Encourage active learning to build self-esteem in an inclusive and respectful environment.
• Facilitate planned and spontaneous experiences.
• Work in compliance with the Child Care Early Years Act, Toronto Operating Criteria, Toronto Public Health guidelines, and the Occupational Health & Safety Act.
• Observe children's strengths, challenges, emerging skills, and interests to plan, implement, evaluate, and revise programming.
• Collaborate with other staff as applicable.
• Demonstrate positive adult/child interaction and effective communication with children.
• Promote children's independence and problem-solving skills.
• Build children's confidence and assist them in understanding and dealing with the consequences of their behavior.
• Model mutual respect and kindness.
• Communicate sensitively and appropriately with parents/families, providing feedback on their child's learning and development.
• Liaise with other agencies and individuals to support children's progress.
• Support the team in managing children's medication schedules and allergies.
• Drop off and/or pick up children from buses outside the Centre if required.
• Serve and clean up lunches, prepare snacks, and maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary kitchen.
• Perform housekeeping duties as assigned.
• Supervise student teachers and assist in completing college evaluation forms and discussions.

Requirements

• Early Childhood Education degree/diploma, Child and Youth degree/diploma, or Recreation and Leisure degree/diploma.
• Teacher in good standing with the Ontario College of Teachers (OCT).
• Member in good standing with the College of Early Childhood Educators (if applicable).
• Experience working with families and children, including those with special needs.
• Demonstrated ability to deliver inclusive programming to children with special needs.
• Strong working knowledge of the ELECT, Play Based curriculum, and program planning based on an inclusion model.
• Good written and verbal communication skills and excellent listening skills.
• Computer literacy, including proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Internet, and email.
• Demonstrated ability to build and maintain effective work partnerships with diverse individuals.
• Acceptable Vulnerable Police Record Check.
• Current Standard First Aid certification.
• Appropriate medical and immunization record.

• $53,637 - $58,343 per annum (prorated)
