About the Role
RBC's AI Group is building reusable patterns to accelerate the design, development, and deployment of AI agents. This hybrid role seeks a Staff AI Engineer to create agent identity, context abstraction, and a standardized data and analytics framework for agent reliability evaluation. The position involves hands-on AI/agent development and full-stack ownership, empowering AI builders across the organization to bring ideas to production faster.
Responsibilities
- Design and build agentic and AI-driven logic, including LLM-as-judge and rubric-driven prompting patterns, to transform platform data into business signals.
- Build and orchestrate agentic workflows, integrating tools and evaluation harnesses for automating complex, governance-sensitive tasks.
- Develop full-stack backend services, APIs, and executive-facing dashboards to present AI-driven signals.
- Build and own data pipelines, collaborating with Data Engineering on data contracts and Governance/Security on data handling.
- Document design decisions, prompt/rubric changes, and evaluation results for auditable AI components, especially in governance-sensitive workflows.
Requirements
- Staff-level experience in applied AI/agentic engineering (agent architectures, prompt design, evaluation, LLM-as-judge patterns) and full-stack software development.
- Demonstrated track record designing and delivering enterprise-grade AI platforms with direct, hands-on engineering contribution.
- Full-stack capability with 7+ years of experience building and shipping production web applications end-to-end, including backend services/APIs (Node.js/Python/Java or equivalent) and a modern frontend framework (React, Angular, or equivalent).
- Ability to independently take a feature from data contract to a working executive-facing UI.
- Comfort owning ambiguous, high-judgment problems, including defining 'good enough' classification accuracy and escalation criteria.
- Experience shipping production systems that consume LLM outputs as a decision signal.
- Ability to work credibly with Governance/Compliance and Security partners on privacy-sensitive, auditable AI decision-making.
- Enjoyment of working across the entire stack, from data contracts to backend, AI logic, and the user interface.
