About the Role
This high-visibility Director role leads the product strategy and execution for Equinix's Capacity Goals program, focusing on identifying and unlocking sellable capacity across the data center portfolio and standardizing capacity measurement and reporting. The role requires strategic vision and hands-on program delivery.
Responsibilities
- Leads and develops a team of 3–5 Product Managers focused on capacity goal-setting, sellable capacity identification, and calculation standardization.
- Provides day-to-day direction, coaching, and prioritization guidance to the team.
- Responsible for performance management including GPS assessments, Total Rewards allocations, and hire/fire decisions.
- Drives talent development through quarterly career conversations, individual development plans, and succession planning.
- Models Equinix Culture and Values; fosters a collaborative, high-accountability team environment.
- Owns the product vision and roadmap for identifying, quantifying, and unlocking additional sellable capacity across Equinix's data center portfolio.
- Leads analysis of existing infrastructure to surface underutilized or stranded capacity opportunities.
- Develops and champions frameworks and methodologies for evaluating sellable capacity that are consistent, defensible, and scalable across regions.
- Collaborates with Sales and Sales Engineering to understand demand signals and align capacity availability strategies to revenue opportunities.
- Drives go-to-market alignment for new or unlocked capacity, ensuring Sales teams have the tools and visibility needed to sell effectively.
- Leads the effort to define, document, and socialize a standardized methodology for how sellable capacity is calculated across all markets and data center types.
- Partners with Finance/Planning to ensure capacity calculations align with financial forecasting models and business planning processes.
- Works with Engineering/Software Development to translate standardized definitions into tooling, dashboards, and reporting systems.
- Establishes governance processes to maintain calculation consistency as the portfolio evolves and new capacity types emerge.
- Acts as the authoritative product voice on what 'capacity' means across internal teams.
- Proactively engages with Director and VP-level stakeholders across Data Center Operations, Sales/Sales Engineering, Finance/Planning, and Engineering to drive alignment on capacity strategy and priorities.
- Serves as the primary product point of contact for high-visibility capacity initiatives.
- Coordinates with cross-functional leadership to remove blockers, resolve conflicts, and keep capacity programs on track.
- Builds trusted partnerships across functions; influences without authority to drive outcomes.
- Mentors the team in rigorous product definition — translating complex capacity and infrastructure concepts into clear requirements and measurable outcomes.
- Serves as an internal thought leader on capacity planning, measurement, and optimization.
- Evangelizes the capacity goals program internally, building organizational understanding and buy-in for standardization efforts.
- Defines and drives adoption of processes and standards for capacity calculation, goal-setting, and reporting.
- Establishes measurement standards and compliance checkpoints to ensure consistency in how capacity is tracked and reported.
- Continuously identifies opportunities to improve process quality, reduce manual effort, and increase accuracy in capacity data.
- Ensures resource allocation across the team is aligned to Equinix's capacity priorities and highest-impact initiatives.
- Works closely with cross-functional leads and project managers to track utilization across the capacity program portfolio.
- Identifies and proactively escalates potential budget shortfalls or resourcing gaps; provides input to annual budget planning.
Requirements
- 10+ years of product management or related experience, with at least 3 years in a people management role.
- Demonstrated experience driving cross-functional programs with high organizational visibility and complexity.
- Strong analytical background; comfortable working with data, defining metrics, and driving standardization of methodologies.
- Proven ability to influence VP and Director-level stakeholders across Operations, Finance, Sales, and Engineering functions.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; able to translate technical and operational complexity into clear executive narratives.
