About the Role

Ensures a secure and safe environment for GIA personnel, students, and the public by performing security duties.

Responsibilities

  • Represents GIA as a professional security representative to employees, students, and visitors.
  • Monitors and ensures CCTV equipment is operational.
  • Operates security console and/or access control equipment.
  • Patrols the Institute grounds while providing a visible presence.
  • Aids in parking enforcement.
  • Directs and/or escorts visitors and vendors.
  • Assists in special tours of the Institute.
  • Submits written reports to Security Supervisor on observations regarding security, maintenance, or safety issues.
  • Responds to alarms as directed.
  • Provides GIA Education Department with additional security or safety issues.
  • Assists in evacuation and crowd control during emergencies.
  • Responds to emergency situations on campus and administers first-aid as required.
  • Operates emergency equipment as needed.
  • Locates and operates emergency shut-off systems as needed.
  • Communicates effectively, gets along with coworkers and management, and deals with others effectively and professionally under pressure.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Intermediate to advanced level computer skills, including experience with current Microsoft applications (Outlook, Word, etc.).
  • Ability to adapt to new software programs and technology.
  • Ability to write or type clear and concise reports.
  • Must have New York Guard card at time of hire and renew as appropriate.
  • Must have First Aid certification card at time of hire and renew as appropriate.
  • Must have Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification card at time of hire and renew as appropriate.
  • Must have Automated External Defibrillation (AED) certification card at time of hire and renew as appropriate.
  • Regularly required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear.
  • Occasionally required to taste or smell.
  • Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • May be required to travel using commercial transportation resources.

Skills

  • Prior security console and/or access control use preferred.
  • Prior related security experience preferred.
