About the Role
An HR Generalist II performs a wide variety of complex human resources tasks. This role may involve leading paraprofessional staff but does not include full supervisory duties.
Responsibilities
- Perform a wide variety of professional human resources work involving assignments of a complex nature requiring a broad knowledge of human resources.
- Lead paraprofessional human resource and office support employees.
- Maintain human resources records.
- Conduct research, compile data and prepare statistical and narrative reports.
- Develop, analyze and manipulate data from various databases to produce reports and spreadsheets.
- Communicate effectively with employees, applicants and management orally and in writing.
- Deal effectively with City employees, elected officials and the public.
- Interpret and implement human resources policies and procedures.
- Deal with a variety of situations and problems under specified time constraints.
- Exercise sound judgment in the applicant review, interview, selection, and job placement of applicants.
Requirements
- A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and three years of experience in human resources administration.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience.
- One year of graduate coursework in human resources administration, business administration or public policy from an accredited college or university may be substituted for each year of the experience requirement.
- Candidates must authorize the release of criminal conviction information.
- Candidates must submit to and pass drug and alcohol tests.
- All selected candidates must complete a mandatory one-year probation period.
- Education must be obtained from an accredited institution.
- Education credentials obtained out of the US must be evaluated for US equivalency.
Skills
- Knowledge of Federal/State/Local regulations affecting employment and human capital management including but not limited to FLSA, ADA and EEO.
- Knowledge of and skill in applying the fundamental human resources management (HRM) principles, practices and techniques in applicable disciplines (Recruitment, Classification & Compensation, Professional Development, HRIS, or Benefits/Wellness) of HR; and basic knowledge of the other disciplines.
- Knowledge of automated office systems and word processing software.
