About the Role
The Building Code Inspector will administer and enforce the New York State Uniform Fire Prevention and Building Code and the New York State Energy Conservation Construction Code. This role supports daily building department operations, ensuring public safety and regulatory compliance.
Responsibilities
- Administer and enforce the New York State Uniform Fire Prevention and Building Code.
- Administer and enforce the New York State Energy Conservation Construction Code.
- Administer and enforce applicable local laws, ordinances, and regulations.
- Coordinate with municipal staff to support daily building department operations.
- Conduct field inspections.
- Perform documentation.
- Communicate with applicants and design professionals.
Requirements
- Current certification as a Code Enforcement Officer by New York State Department of State.
- Working knowledge of the Uniform Code and Energy Code.
- Familiarity with building department operations.
- Ability to read construction documents.
- Ability to interpret zoning regulations.
- Strong communication skills, both verbally and in writing.
- Customer service oriented.
- Valid New York State Driver’s License.
- Must have a reliable vehicle.
- Ability to navigate construction sites and varying terrain.
- Ability to work in different weather conditions.
