About the Role
The Renewables Team at LaBella focuses on designing and supporting the construction of small-to-utility scale Photovoltaic (PV) and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects throughout the United States. The position involves collaboration with colleagues in LaBella across multiple disciplines including the Civil, Power, Environmental, Energy and Structural groups. Services provided by the Electrical Team include Site Feasibility Assessments, Utility Application Support, design and generation of Construction Documents, Construction Engineering Support, and Independent Engineer Reviews. The engineer will be an integral part of an experienced and dedicated team working on an exciting and diverse portfolio of projects with a broad client base, offering career advancement opportunities.
Responsibilities
- Design, manage, and complete project designs independently and as part of a team.
- Collaborate professionally with internal divisions and external clients.
- Engage in design training and mentoring activities.
- Design and draft clear, cost-effective construction set deliverables following industry best practices and LaBella standards.
- Review project drawings and documentation.
- Calculate and design PV stringing layout.
- Size cables, overcurrent protective devices, and equipment ratings per NEC.
- Perform layout of Point of Interconnection equipment.
- Coordinate with clients and Civil Engineers regarding site layout.
- Perform grounding design per NEC and utility requirements.
- Select transformers, inverters, and combiner boxes and detail their installation.
- Specify, select, and review equipment and materials.
- Ensure project compliance with NFPA 70 (NEC) and IEEE-C2 (NESC).
- Conduct site visits.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, energy engineering, engineering technology or related program.
- AutoCAD (or similar) experience.
- 5+ years professional engineering experience.
- 3+ years professional engineering experience in the energy or construction industries.
- Preferred: 3+ years of experience working in the energy industry.
- New York State Professional Engineer’s license is a plus.
- Experience in PVCase, PVSyst, or eTap is a plus.
