About the Role
As an Executive Director, you will provide inspiring leadership and supervision to the senior living community and programs, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and alignment with Buckner’s mission, vision, and values. You will coordinate and oversee the community's strategy, budget development, and performance, while ensuring the delivery of effective, safe, and appropriate quality care. Your role is crucial in setting the tone for a vibrant lifestyle and helping residents and staff experience "life opened wide."
Responsibilities
- Develop and monitor policies and procedures for quality resident care, ensuring compliance with legal, regulatory, and company standards.
- Plan and participate in meetings, making presentations on organizational performance and assisting senior leadership.
- Manage all community business operations, including financial and physical resources, budget control, and cost-effective service promotion.
- Ensure community goals are met through effective human and financial resource utilization, maintaining compliance with HR policies, legal, and regulatory requirements.
- Participate in and manage the annual budget process, approving expenditures and ensuring efficient program resource use.
- Maintain accurate business records, including financial transactions, accounts receivable, and accounts payable.
- Assist, guide, and support team leaders in employee selection, review, evaluation, and termination, approving all hiring and termination decisions.
- Conduct regular staff meetings and assist management in strategic planning, evaluating results, and initiating improvements.
- Review and react to reports from inspecting agencies, reporting all contact with regulatory bodies to the Vice President.
- Advise the Vice President of potential problems impacting the community or corporation and prepare responses to regulatory claims.
- Ensure overall community operations are effective and efficient, resolving issues promptly and maintaining an effective organizational structure.
- Maintain business and client records in compliance with company policies, state, and federal laws.
- Ensure confidentiality of business-related information and control its release.
- Respond timely to family and elder concerns or complaints, investigate reported incidents, and complete incident reports.
- Oversee interviews for admission inquiries.
- Perform regular facility inspections and implement actions to resolve safety, compliance, or client concerns.
- Make daily rounds, observe meal services, visit with elders, and communicate feedback to staff.
- Assess risks and opportunities for new community programs and identify improvement options for current programs.
- Monitor trends and changes in the retirement industry's practices and legislation, communicating them to the Vice President.
- Review and evaluate census reports, development programs, overtime reports, and monthly financial statements to assess business operations and direct corrections.
- Supervise, monitor, evaluate, and provide direction to direct reports, fostering professional growth and conducting performance evaluations.
- Develop emerging leadership through professional growth and development.
- Maintain compliance with all Buckner policies, procedures, state and federal laws, and contract/licensing provisions.
- Conduct staff meetings and trainings regularly, and participate in various required meetings and trainings.
- Work successfully as part of a team and develop strong working relationships with co-workers.
- Travel as needed to monitor, assess, and help develop programs.
- Perform general office tasks as required.
- Perform special assignments, projects, and other duties as required.
Requirements
- Extensive knowledge and experience with the full continuum of care for senior adults.
- Ability to define problems, draw conclusions, and make decisions dealing with abstract variables.
- Minimum 8 years of successful experience in long-term care management.
- Minimum 5 years of proven business management experience.
- Knowledge of laws and regulations governing the agency and employees.
- Proficient ability to speak, read, and write English.
- Strong sense of diplomacy and demonstrated success in developing collaborative relationships.
- Ability to relate positively, influentially, and sensitively to a broad spectrum of persons.
- Recognized ability to meet multiple deadlines by maintaining a high level of organization.
- Demonstrated strong analytical skills, including synthesizing large amounts of information and focusing on the essence of an issue.
- Strong commitment to producing measurable results.
- Ability to function in a fast-paced, high-volume, multi-faceted, results-oriented work environment.

- Ability to travel to various geographic locations by car or airplane with some overnight stays.
- Ability to drive assigned vehicle(s) or personal vehicle with appropriate license and insurance.
- Must be age 21 or older to drive on behalf of Buckner.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Proficient ability to exhibit detail-oriented skills necessary to understand and manage a wide range of information.
- In-depth ability to plan, administer, and report budgets.
- Proficient working knowledge of budgetary management, financial process controls, and development of policies and procedures.
- Ability to effectively manage personnel, including staff selection, development, motivation, scheduling, and evaluation.
- Proficient working knowledge and ability to operate computer-related tasks with specific equipment and software applications, including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
- Professional commitment to Christian principles and teachings aligned with Buckner’s mission, vision, and values.
- Ability to use up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently and/or 10 pounds continuously to move objects.
- Ability to walk frequently; occasionally stand for prolonged periods; occasionally squat, climb stairs, kneel, and twist.
- Required to sit for prolonged periods, including airline travel.
- Ability to speak clearly and make self understood in face-to-face interactions.
- Ability to articulate with extreme accuracy and precision to give directions and speak on the phone.
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, trustees, vendors, residents, families, and agency representatives.
- Ability to effectively work under pressure and remain flexible as priorities change.
- Ability to work under minimal supervision, exercise sound judgment, and maintain confidentiality.
