About the Role

Join Ellsworth Creamery, a company committed to Team, Craft & Community since 1910, and work with a cooperative of local farmers to create award-winning cheese. Our New London facility focuses on producing functional cheeses for versatile culinary applications.

Responsibilities

  • Anticipate and meet the Company’s evolving needs and objectives under the direction of the Blending and/or Sanitation Supervisor.
  • Assist with achieving daily production demand and ensuring the make of high-quality products.
  • Assure safety, quality, and performance objectives.
  • Become proficient in Cheese Batcher duties: provide correct grouped cheeses under specific formula for production.
  • Become proficient in Barrel Dumper duties: dump and slice barrels of cheese in the production line.
  • Become proficient in Ingredient Batcher duties: provide accurate ingredient formulas for cheese production.
  • Become proficient in Loading Belt / Track duties: transfer cheese onto conveyor belt for grinding.
  • Execute the company’s business strategies to achieve the goals of the Director of Operations.
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory standards including Human Resources, GMP, OSHA, FDA, WDATCP, SQF, and USDA.
  • Safely and efficiently operate production machines and/or equipment for tasks such as forming, filling, wrapping, packaging, or processing materials.
  • Handle all ingredients and packaging in accordance with manufacturers’ recommendations, internal food safety requirements, organic requirements, and regulatory standards.
  • Ensure the presence, accuracy, and legibility of required information on all production documentation.
  • Develop required skills and knowledge to keep production highly functional.
  • Inspect all raw cheeses for mold, dirt or unsanitary conditions and properly discard unusable product.
  • Properly organize storage of ingredients and raw cheese supplies.
  • Complete training on hand trucks, forklifts, and other power equipment.
  • Properly use cheese scale to accurately weigh cheese slabs.
  • Report any questionable quality or unsanitary findings to the Quality Assurance Supervisor.
  • Maintain chemical safety awareness.
  • Follow all Standard Sanitation Operating Procedures.
  • Disassemble, clean, sanitize, and reassemble all production equipment.
  • Check all gaskets and O-rings for wear and replace when necessary.
  • Complete all daily documentation.
  • Promote a safe, secure, and positive work environment.
  • Perform other duties as appropriate or assigned.

Requirements

  • Ability to read and follow directions.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must pass forklift operations training.
  • Must pass a drug & alcohol screen as well as a general background check.
  • Ability to lift 50+ lbs. repetitively.
  • Ability to push 500lb. barrels of cheese on a track.
  • Ability to stand for up to 8 hours per shift.
  • Adhere to all food and plant safety policies and regulations.
