About the Role

The Sr. Associate Manager, Finance will own and analyze the overall financial performance of the New York Racing Association, build financial models for enterprise forecast, budget, cash, and other key financial elements. This role partners cross-functionally with business leaders to quantify business strategy impacts, identify revenue opportunities, and cost-saving initiatives. The incumbent will also support the FP&A and accounting teams with periodic report preparation and filing.

Responsibilities

  • Own and manage the enterprise P&L and cash forecast, including reviewing significant variances.
  • Assist the Senior Director, Finance in preparing month and quarter-end reporting materials for the executive team and the board.
  • Develop the annual operating budget for the enterprise and build multi-year P&L and cash budgets.
  • Assist in the preparation of quarterly financial reporting and materials for external updates.
  • Manage and update P&L views in various formats (track P&L, daily P&L, event P&L).
  • Own and manage the purse cushion forecast for the racing department.
  • Collaborate with functional department heads in analyzing revenue-generating and cost-cutting initiatives.
  • Analyze daily wagering data and prepare a daily handle report.
  • Prepare monthly and other periodic reports analyzing wagering activity, revenues, handle, and meets.
  • Analyze and interpret data and trends related to handle revenue, sponsorships, ticketing, concession, and other on-track racing-related revenue.
  • Manage a daily revenue report during the Saratoga meet, coordinating with multiple department heads for data.
  • Support the finance team on treasury or tax needs, such as processing banking transactions or completing tax payments.
  • Recommend process improvements to enhance financial reporting efficiency and accuracy.
  • Assist in the preparation of other ad-hoc projects as required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree required, preferably in accounting, finance, or economics.
  • A minimum of 6-8 years of experience in accounting/finance preferred.
  • Thoroughbred horse-racing knowledge is highly preferred.
  • General understanding of finance and/or FP&A fundamentals.
  • Analytical and creative mindset for interpreting data and trends.
  • Ability to complete tasks within set deadlines.
  • Excellent computer skills, including Microsoft suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word).
  • SAP and Payroll/Benefit related software knowledge is a plus.
  • Strong organizational skills, sound judgment, and ability to operate independently.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to read on-screen and printed documents.
  • Ability to communicate effectively by phone and in person.
