About the Role
Under the direction of the nursing leader, the Nurse's Aide assists in performing a variety of duties related to the physical care of the patients, including obtaining report of patient assignments from the RN at the start of the shift and providing meticulous care to each child. Nurse's Aides are eligible for an evening shift, night shift and New York State CNA certification differential.
Responsibilities
- Maintain unit and patients’ rooms compliant with regulatory agency codes and standards.
- Obtain, record, and report vital signs to RN.
- Change patients to and from various adaptive equipment as recommended/directed by the therapists or RN.
- Maintain accurate patient records and documentation.
- Assist with or perform treatment procedures that have been predetermined for each patient.
- Feed or assist with feeding of patients during meals/snacks.
- Assist patients with diapering/toileting/showers as necessary.
- Reposition assigned patients to promote skin integrity, muscle tone, and maintain body alignment.
- Maintain excellent hand hygiene and adhere to precautions as required for each patient.
- Maintain professional boundaries.
- Assist the nurse during emergency situations.
Requirements
- Prior relevant job experience in a pediatric setting preferred.
- Weekend and holiday commitment.
- Ability to work long shifts, including nights and weekends, while maintaining a high level of care.
- Ability to lift, transfer, and reposition patients safely, often with the aid of equipment like lifts or slings.
- Ability to handle and operate medical equipment, as well as perform tasks such as taking vital signs or administering medications.
- Must be able to move/lift equipment and patients a minimum of 35-40 lbs.
- Must exhibit fine motor coordination in the manipulation of biomedical equipment (e.g., thermometers, scissors, etc.).

Education Level
- High School Diploma or GED
- Currently enrolled in a BSN (Bachelor of Science in Nursing), Pre-PA or PA (Physician Assistant), Pre-Med or Pre-Physical Therapy program preferred.
- Candidates' with PCT and/or MA licenses in New York State and/or commensurate experience will also be considered.
- New York State Certified Nurse's Aide students can be placed in our Long-Term Care Unit.
Salary/Compensations
- USD $24.25 - USD $24.55 /Hr.
- New York State Certified Nurse's Aide certification differential is $3,000.00 per year.
