About the Role
The Salvation Army Syracuse Area Services is seeking a Youth Support Specialist to serve as a mentor and positive role model for children and teens ages 1-21. This role focuses on restoring, rehabilitating, and supporting the developmental needs of youth to help them become active and productive members of their community.
Responsibilities
- Assist clients in developing and applying skills in natural settings
- Provide planned and crisis respite services
- Promote personal and community competence through developmentally appropriate skill-building
- Increase client social and interpersonal skills
- Deliver services in individual and group settings within the community
- Work with clients in various environments including homes, schools, workplaces, and agency facilities
- Document services accurately in accordance with Medicaid billing and agency standards
- Collaborate with other service providers on treatment plans and care coordination
- Demonstrate cultural competence and trauma-informed practice
- Attend weekly supervision meetings
- Participate in mandatory and recommended training programs
Requirements
- Minimum of High School diploma, GED, or Technical School degree
- Related experience working with at-risk youth or youth with mental health/special needs
- Access to private transportation
- Valid NYS Driver License
- Ability to telecommute
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office including Outlook, Word, and Excel
- Experience working within a collaborative team environment
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
