About the Role
The New York Foundling is seeking a Health Educator to facilitate evidence-based curriculum for youth aged 10-21, promoting safe sexual behaviors and reducing risks of STDs/STIs and adolescent pregnancy. This role also involves serving as a community resource, connecting individuals to family planning, medical clinics, and other sexual health services.
Responsibilities
- Facilitate evidence-based curriculum with fidelity to youth aged 10-21, encouraging safe sexual behaviors and reducing STD/STI risk and adolescent pregnancy.
- Serve as a community resource, connecting individuals to family planning resources, medical clinics, STI/STD testing, and other sexual health services.
- Complete mandatory training in curriculum delivery and implementation.
- Participate in additional trainings to strengthen teaching dynamics and skills.
- Collect data, including demographics, pre/post surveys, and attendance.
- Accurately enter all collected data into designated online databases.
- Conduct community outreach and education.
- Promote sexual health and wellness through workshops, lectures, and community events.
- Serve as an educational resource for participants, caregivers, and the community regarding sexual health/family planning, medical services, and other support.
- Demonstrate knowledge of human sexuality, sexual behaviors, adolescent development, gender identity, and contraceptive use in a safe, supportive, and confidential environment.
- Provide assistance and/or referrals for youth to obtain comprehensive family planning services, health services, or other essential support services.
Requirements
- Ability to facilitate discussions and teach classes on reproductive health topics, including anatomy, contraceptive methods, STDs, and HIV/AIDS.
- Experience working with youth and demonstrated ability to be inclusive and non-stigmatizing.
- Knowledge of or experience working with youth in child welfare programs.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and/or weekends.
- Demonstrated strong commitment to safety.
