About the Role

Health Research, Inc. is seeking a Research Scientist III to lead research and applied epidemiology analysis activities examining relationships among socioeconomic conditions, population health outcomes, and overall wellbeing. This role focuses on assessing community-based economic and public health initiatives and analyzing their association with population health indicators and related outcomes.

Responsibilities

• Lead the planning, development, and implementation of research and applied epidemiology analysis activities.
• Examine relationships among socioeconomic conditions, population health outcomes, and overall wellbeing.
• Assess community-based economic and public health initiatives and analyze their association with population health indicators.
• Examine and assess community wealth building initiatives and their impact on social determinants of health and health disparities.
• Develop comprehensive evaluation and analysis plans, including methodologies and algorithms for measuring health, economic, demographic, and community-level indicators.
• Assess the impact of unit programming on community health and economic indicators such as wealth.
• Identify, obtain, and manage datasets.
• Develop surveys for data collection.
• Build and validate relevant measures.
• Produce reports, publications, and presentations summarizing findings.
• Collaborate with NYSDOH partners to support analytical projects.
• Provide technical guidance to staff.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in public health, epidemiology, statistics, a related social science, or a closely related field and four years of research experience; OR a Master’s degree in a related field and three years of research experience; OR a Doctorate degree in a related field and one year of research experience.
• Master’s degree in Public Health or a related field and three years of experience in public health research, surveillance, or evaluation OR a doctoral degree in Public Health or a related field and one year of experience in public health research, surveillance, or evaluation.
• Demonstrated proficiency in data analysis, statistical methodology, interpretation, and dissemination of data for varied audiences.
• Demonstrated proficiency utilizing advanced data analysis techniques to examine non-health related data such as net worth, income, employment, housing, and education metrics to assess their relationship with wealth and health outcomes.
• Strong data analysis, data management, data visualization and evaluation experience, particularly with economic and large health-related datasets.
• Professional and/or academic knowledge of public health concepts, including social determinants of health, health disparities, and health equity, as they relate to population health outcomes and wellbeing.
• Experience supervising staff.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Demonstrated intermediate or advanced proficiency using SAS including proficient use of SAS BASE, SQL, GRAPH, STAT, ODS, MACRO, ArcGIS, Tableau.
• Demonstrated experience with survey design and implementation.
• Demonstrated experience in creating infographics and graphical presentations of data.
• Valid and unrestricted authorization to work in the U.S. is required.
• Grant funded position. Compliance with funding requirements such as time and effort reporting, grant deliverables, and contract deliverables, is required.
• The selected candidate must reside within a reasonable commuting distance of the official work location and must also be located in or willing to relocate to New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Vermont, or Massachusetts, prior to hire.

• $4,000 annual downstate adjustment (pro-rated for part-time positions)
