About the Role
Sompo has a unique opportunity for a Claims Specialist, Construction in our Casualty Construction team. Our Casualty Construction team manages complex primary and excess casualty claims for construction-related risks. Working closely with underwriting, actuarial, legal, and claims partners, the team delivers technical expertise, strong claim outcomes, and exceptional service while supporting the overall profitability and growth of the business.
Responsibilities
- Manage primary and excess General Liability claims for construction-related insureds, including Construction Defect, Bodily Injury, and Property Damage exposures.
- Evaluate coverage, analyze exposures, establish reserves, assess tender opportunities and underlying policy limits/SIRs, and develop strategies that drive effective claim resolution.
- Direct litigation management by partnering with defense counsel, controlling expenses, and executing claim and settlement strategies that support favorable outcomes.
- Collaborate with management, underwriting, and actuarial teams by communicating claim developments, supporting renewal activities, and identifying loss and expense trends across a portfolio of claims.
- Maintain accurate claim files, correspondence, diaries, reserves, and documentation in compliance with company standards and regulatory requirements.
- Represent Sompo's interests in negotiations and meetings while serving as a technical resource on policy language, endorsements, significant claim developments, and industry trends.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree required; CPCU, IIA, SCLA, or other insurance-related designations are a plus.
- 3–5 years of insurance claims or legal experience handling construction-related liability matters, including coverage analysis, reserving, litigation management, and claim resolution.
- Strong analytical, negotiation, written, verbal, and presentation skills, with the ability to communicate complex claim matters and build effective business partnerships.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities, work independently, and successfully drive projects and claim outcomes in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and claims management systems; experience with Guidewire, Genius, and ImageRight preferred.
- Occasional travel as needed for mediations.
