About the Role
Wellstar is seeking a Unit Support Associate to facilitate the safe and appropriate transportation of patients. This role involves cleaning equipment, assisting with patient ambulation, stocking supplies, verifying patient identification, and assisting with patient transfers. The associate will work in a fast-paced environment, requiring multi-tasking and clear communication with healthcare personnel. The role also includes assisting with electronic medical records.
Responsibilities
- Transport patients to and from the ED, Radiology, and Test/Procedure areas.
- Clean transportation equipment.
- Properly handle IV and O2 equipment during transport.
- Assist with patient ambulation.
- Stock supplies.
- Verify patient identification.
- Use scripting with patients.
- Assist patients to and from imaging tables.
- Utilize AIDET.
- Adhere to all policies.
- File physician transcription/dictation in electronic medical records.
- Obtain TTR (ticket to ride) and properly sign out/notify RN upon return.
- Ensure proper handwashing and isolation technique is used.
- Utilize proper body mechanics and lift equipment.
- Clean equipment.
- Stock rooms as needed.
- Scan outside documentation into EMR as needed.
- Protect patient rights and dignity at all times.
- Maintain confidentiality.
- Answer telephone and call lights promptly.
- Resolve patient concerns.
- Proactively offer assistance and comfort measures to patients and families.
- Present self in a positive and professional manner.
- Provide patient care under the supervision of licensed staff.
- Provide basic patient care needs (e.g., hygiene, nutrition, elimination, physical comfort measures) as assigned.
- Assist members of the health care team with care delivery as assigned.
- Support initiatives of the health care team.
- Participate in department performance improvement initiatives.
- Transport patients to and from Radiation Oncology Dept, Inpatient floors and Emergency Dept. as needed.
- Transport supplies, patient care supplies, linen, medications and equipment as assigned.
- Practice accountability.
- Use effective written and oral communication skills with patients, staff, physicians, family, and visitors.
- Use safety communication techniques.
- Communicate completion of assignment/duties to the appropriate person.
- Communicate patient care concerns/problems/emergencies to the RN or appropriate staff member.
- Use positive and respectful communication with all members of the healthcare team, patients, and families.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Comply with all WellStar Health System policies, standards of work, and code of conduct.
