About the Role

As a working student in the legal department, you will be an integral part of our dynamic, global legal team, collaborating closely with lawyers across Europe, Israel, and New York. You will support our business expansion in Europe and the launch of new projects. With mentorship, you will gain insights into the multifaceted responsibilities of an in-house counsel and experience the legal department of a fast-growing scale-up.

Responsibilities

  • Review and coordinate contract execution (e.g., NDAs, SaaS agreements, supplier contracts, lease agreements), ensuring accuracy and identifying key risks.
  • Support the maintenance and organization of contract databases and templates.
  • Conduct legal and regulatory research in areas relevant to Via, including transport network services, gig economy, insurance, open-source data, and data protection law.
  • Monitor GDPR and other data privacy law compliance by reviewing Data Processing Agreements (DPAs) with vendors and partners.
  • Support Via's internal compliance and corporate governance.
  • Build knowledge of internal databases and systems to derive insights for business decisions.
  • Develop and implement measures to improve the legal team's efficiency through ticketing systems, document management and filing systems, and KPI tracking.
  • Lead continuous maintenance and improvement of forms, processes, and systems.
  • Support the advancement of legal processes to enhance scalability and efficiency.
  • Provide administrative support and assist with special projects as needed.

Requirements

  • Currently undertaking legal clerkship (Rechtsreferendariat) and eligible for a placement in an in-house legal department.
  • Previous experience with or interest in tech, data protection, or regulatory law; knowledge of GDPR is a plus.
  • Proficient with internal systems and data, capable of deriving insights for business decisions from databases.
  • Clear and concise communication, both written and verbal, with the ability to explain complex legal concepts to non-legal stakeholders.
  • Organized and detail-oriented, with the ability to manage multiple workstreams simultaneously.
  • Proactive and eager to learn, taking initiative and drawing energy from the versatility of an in-house role in a fast-growing company.
  • Fluent in English and German; additional language skills are a plus.
