About the Role
This role provides technical leadership for the structural design of transmission stations and related facilities. You will drive high-quality engineering solutions, ensure design consistency, and maintain adherence to standards, codes, and regulatory requirements while providing mentorship to engineering staff.
Responsibilities
- Develop and review structural and civil designs, engineering calculations, specifications, and documentation.
- Provide technical oversight for structural designs of major transformer, switching, frequency changer, and condenser stations.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to ensure design coordination and integrity across project phases.
- Examine contracts, equipment, and material tenders to ensure alignment with design intent.
- Address structural design issues during field construction, including site visits and implementing revisions.
- Recommend and assist in the development of new or revised structural design standards.
- Act as a subject matter expert on assigned projects to resolve complex engineering challenges.
- Supervise, mentor, and provide technical guidance to junior and intermediate engineers.
- Lead and participate in peer reviews of engineering deliverables.
- Act as a recognized design authority for complex, non-standard, or high-risk station designs.
Requirements
- Professional Engineering Ontario (PEO) License (P.ENG) and seal.
- Engineering knowledge of steel structure design, soil mechanics, foundations, concrete design, structural theory, and mechanics of materials.
- Practical experience in structural design, including interaction with electrical equipment and drawing production.
- Field experience in construction methods, installation practices, and constructability.
- Progressive experience in the design of transformer, switching, frequency changer, and condenser stations.
