About the Role

Responsible for reviewing and processing requests for release of information for customers, patients, physician offices, and other requestors.

Responsibilities

  • Reviews written requests for PHI, ensuring compliance with NYS and HIPAA guidelines.
  • Accesses multiple computer applications to obtain demographic and visit information.
  • Enters data requests through ROI software for tracking and forwards requests to the copy service.
  • Performs front desk functions including greeting customers, assisting with authorization forms, explaining processes, verifying identity, and fulfilling high-volume fax requests for PHI.
  • Manages off-site storage of paper records, including retrieval, returns, labeling, software utilization, and knowledge of inventory and retention.
  • Participates in department performance improvement activities, meetings, and hospital activities.
  • Ensures work area is organized, neat, and clean, with all patient records appropriately stored at the end of the shift.
  • Responds to a high volume of telephone calls and voicemails in a timely and courteous manner.
  • Maintains and models REACH Values (Respect, Excellence, Accountability, Compassion, Honor).
  • Demonstrates regular, reliable, and predictable attendance.
  • Performs other duties as required.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of two (2) years medical record experience with basic knowledge of HIPAA (preferred).
