About the Role
Conduct highly technical research, prepare, analyze, and review financial, tax, and regulatory information. Ensure adherence to internal controls and data quality for reporting to senior management, regulators, and other stakeholders.
Responsibilities
- Mentor junior team members.
- Resolve problems and interpret data.
- Perform or review variance analysis.
- Ensure timely submission of reports.
- Provide cross-training and support to new team members.
- Prepare complex financial schedules, reconciliations, and reports.
- Evaluate situations using multiple information sources and suggest insightful conclusions.
- Perform data integrity testing.
- Handle general ledger entries.
- Ensure adherence to generally accepted accounting principles, SEC disclosure requirements, and bank regulatory requirements.
- Review the work of junior staff.
- Participate in special projects and improve existing processes.
- Interact with business line personnel and communicate results to department management.
- Ensure team workload is shared to achieve department/project objectives.
- Participate in training and development opportunities.
- Understand, adhere to, and contribute to the improvement of deliverables and process efficiency.
- Understand and adhere to the Company’s risk and regulatory standards, policies, and controls.
- Identify risk-related issues needing escalation to management.
- Promote an environment that supports belonging and reflects the M&T Bank brand.
- Maintain M&T internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points and regulatory issues.
- Complete other related duties as assigned.
- Train junior staff.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree and a minimum of 3 years’ experience, OR Associate's degree and a minimum of 5 years’ experience in accounting, auditing, operations, or financial institutions.
- Comprehensive understanding of finance, accounting, and/or regulatory reporting concepts, business operations, and/or bank products.
- Knowledge of the banking industry.
- High level of PC competencies (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Access).
- Detail-oriented with advanced problem-solving skills.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to multitask while prioritizing workload.
- Candidates requiring sponsorship now or in the future, including F-1 visa holders (CPT, OPT, STEM OPT), will not be considered.
Skills
- Data visualization or data querying applications are a plus.
