About the Role

Dispatchers at First Student are crucial for ensuring safe, reliable, and on-schedule operations by coordinating bus routes, managing driver support, and handling frontline communication.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for parents, schools, and administrators regarding bus delays, schedule updates, or stop concerns.
  • Actively manage complaints, answer heavy-volume phone calls, and provide creative, real-time solutions for pick-up/drop-off issues.
  • Monitor route progress and communicate with drivers via two-way radio.
  • Monitor on-time performance.
  • Coordinate with emergency services, management, and maintenance teams during accidents, incidents, or mechanical failures.
  • Maintain a variety of records and files related to bus transportation.
  • Create and work with spreadsheets and other forms of computer data.
  • Support routing relating to drivers and routes.
  • Assist drivers with day-to-day operational questions and route needs.
  • Resolve customer or service problems directly when appropriate or escalate to the Operations Complaints Supervisor or Location Leadership.
  • Complete special projects as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent (commercial vehicle license preferred).
  • 1-3 years of relevant experience (dispatch, terminal operations, or driving).
  • Strong communication, customer service, and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency with computers and radio dispatch systems.
  • Ability to multitask and work under time constraints.
