About the Role

Academic advisors support student success through a collaborative, student-centered relationship that enriches learning and development. This role involves developing, implementing, and managing academic advisement strategies to enhance retention and student connection to their academic program and the university.

Responsibilities

  • Meet with students to review degree progress and graduation requirements
  • Assist students with course registration and resolving requirement concerns
  • Identify alternative courses and solutions to meet degree requirements
  • Review career goals and assist with post-college planning, including resume revision and interview coaching
  • Maintain knowledge of registration and enrollment dates
  • Make referrals to campus services such as counseling, financial aid, and disability services
  • Conduct outreach to build relationships and provide information on available services
  • Maintain accurate records of all student interactions
  • Review and update degree audits, including evaluating transfer credits
  • Participate in university student success and retention initiatives
  • Collaborate with faculty, department chairs, and university partners
  • Participate in admissions, recruitment, and orientation programs
  • Engage in professional development and departmental committees

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Higher Education, Counselor Education, Career Counseling, Social Work, or a related field
  • Minimum of 2 years of related experience
  • Thorough understanding of FERPA regulations
  • Ability to work nights and weekends as required
  • Eligibility to work in the United States
  • Successful completion of a criminal background check and/or motor vehicle records check
