About the Role
This role will assist in the daily operation, preventive maintenance, and troubleshooting of various HVAC and plant utility systems. The student will be involved in hands-on technical support, equipment monitoring, and system optimization tasks across the plant to ensure efficient, safe, and reliable utility services.
Responsibilities
- Operate, install, maintain, troubleshoot, test, and repair HVAC and plant utility systems including chilled water systems, water treatment and heating systems, air systems, compressed air systems, process support systems, and building infrastructure.
- Conduct scheduled inspections and preventive maintenance.
- Perform mechanical repairs on HVAC, utility, and support systems.
- Support millwright tasks such as machinery alignment, bearing replacement, and filter changes.
- Monitor Building Automation System (BAS) to maintain energy efficiency and operational safety.
- Assist with seasonal transitions and system adjustments, including free-cooling operations.
- Assist during plant shutdown/start-up processes.
- Support relocation and assembly of facility equipment or furniture.
- Learn and operate lift equipment such as Sky-Jack or Zoom Boom, if required.
- Ensure compliance with health, safety, fire, and security protocols.
- Participate in safety audits and housekeeping of mechanical spaces.
- Carry out additional tasks and responsibilities as assigned.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent in Mechanical, HVAC or related technical field preferred.
- Basic understanding of facility maintenance practices.
- Familiarity with HVAC systems and Building Automation Systems (BAS) is an asset.
- Work is performed both indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Exposure to mechanical rooms and industrial environments with moderate to high noise levels.
- Regular interaction with other maintenance and facility teams.
- Requires occasional lifting, moving equipment, and working at heights using certified lift equipment.
Skills
- Fundamental knowledge of preventive and reactive maintenance processes.
- Good command of English (written and verbal).
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical and electrical schematics.
- Proficient in safe handling of hand and power tools.
- Strong problem-solving aptitude: ability to learn and adapt quickly.
- Team-oriented with the ability to work independently when required.
