About the Role
Legal Services of the Hudson Valley (LSHV) seeks a full-time Domestic Violence/General Practice Staff Attorney to represent clients who are crime victims, primarily focusing on domestic violence survivors in Family and Immigration matters. This role may also involve assisting with housing, public benefits, and consumer debt issues for qualifying individuals and families in Sullivan County.
Responsibilities
- Individual client representation
- Litigation in state and federal courts
- Litigation in administrative hearings
- Appellate practice
- Handle a high-volume caseload in a fast-paced and demanding environment
- Participation in community legal education and outreach activities
- Adhere to program and case handling standards
- Adhere to funder requirements
- Adhere to the highest professional standards
- Be available as a resource to LSHV staff and access to justice communities
Requirements
- Admission to the New York State Bar or passed the NY bar and awaiting admission; or out of state admission with eligibility for pro hac vice status
- One or more years of legal experience, including litigation and handling high volume caseload
- Excellent people skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to handle high stress situations
- Ability to work effectively with a diverse group of stakeholders
- Valid driver’s license and own transportation
