About the Role

The New York County District Attorney's Office (DANY) seeks a Special Officer to provide physical security, safety, and maintenance of order within the Investigation Bureau. This role requires passing a background check for firearm carry and possessing a valid New York State Peace Officer certification.

Responsibilities

  • Patrol designated areas to maintain safety, security, and building control.
  • Screen employees and visitors to prevent unauthorized access.
  • Provide routine information and directions to visitors.
  • Control building access and verify identification.
  • Complete accurate reports of observations and occurrences.
  • Alert management of suspicious activity and notify emergency services when necessary.
  • Preserve peace and safeguard life and property.
  • Operate and monitor security equipment, reporting maintenance needs.
  • Discourage and eject disorderly persons; arrest and issue summonses when appropriate.
  • Perform supervisor duties in their temporary absence.
  • Work on special projects and tasks as assigned.
  • Work flexible hours, including potential weekend availability.

Requirements

  • Must possess a minimum of four (4) years of relevant experience.
  • Must possess a valid New York State Peace Officer certification, which must be maintained for the duration of employment.
  • Firearms qualification required.
  • Must pass a medical exam, drug test, psychological screening, and an intensive background check.
  • U.S. citizenship required.
  • A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent.
  • Must satisfy training requirements for Peace Officers and obtain certification.
  • A motor vehicle driver license valid in the State of New York may be required and must be maintained for the duration of employment.

Skills

  • Prior security, law enforcement or criminal justice experience.
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Access.
  • Ability to work with frequent interruptions and adapt to workflow changes.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple short-term projects.
  • Ability to follow directions and apply proper policies, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Strong attention to detail and high concern for data accuracy.
  • Dependable team player who works collaboratively and cooperatively.
  • Ability to perform under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
  • Detail-oriented, self-motivated, and able to multi-task.
  • Ability to interact with all levels of staff and other law enforcement agencies.
