About the Role

The Office of the Chief Counsel to the Mayor and City Hall is seeking a public service-minded attorney to provide legal and strategic guidance to senior policymakers on policy, legislation, compliance, and ethics.

Responsibilities

  • Research local, state, and federal laws, court decisions, and legal authorities.
  • Provide policy guidance and legal analysis to City Hall staff to advance mayoral initiatives.
  • Collaborate with senior administration officials on transparency projects and Freedom of Information Law compliance.
  • Analyze conflicts, ethics, and privacy questions, including outside activities and gift requests.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate contracts, releases, licenses, and other agreements.
  • Provide legal analysis on employment, EEO, and conflict matters.
  • Act as a policy advisor to agencies reporting to the Chief Counsel.
  • Review and make legal judgments regarding sensitive material.

Requirements

  • Admission to the New York State Bar.
  • Maintain good standing with the New York State Bar for the duration of employment.
  • Minimum 1+ years of relevant legal experience.
  • Four years of recent full-time responsible, relevant, satisfactory legal experience subsequent to admission to any bar.
  • Eighteen months of experience in the supervision of other attorneys, in an administrative, managerial, or executive capacity, or performing highly complex legal work.
