About the Role

The NYC Department of Design and Construction, Public Buildings Division seeks Senior Project Managers to manage complex capital commitment projects from conception to completion. This role involves overseeing project scope, budget, schedule, and staff, as well as resolving issues and ensuring safety compliance.

Responsibilities

• Manage complex capital commitment projects.
• Review proposed projects to determine execution strategy.
• Collaborate with Sponsor Agencies from project inception to understand scope and vision.
• Oversee projects from conception through construction completion and close-out.
• Generate cost estimates for project bidding.
• Develop project schedules for timely and cost-effective completion.
• Supervise, coordinate, and direct project design, construction management, and construction staff.
• Resolve construction or design issues.
• Negotiate with contractors and vendors.
• Process and review change orders and project estimates.
• Ensure adherence to safety precautions and project completion schedules.
• Generate reports.
• Attend meetings.
• Oversee contractor performance.
• Supervise, coordinate, and direct Project Managers and Junior Project Managers.

Requirements

• Must be permanent in the Associate Project Manager title, or reachable on the DDC Promotional list (exam #3573), or the Open-Competitive List (Exam #3110).
• Include a copy of your Notice of Results card or indicate if you are already permanent in the title.
• Authorization to work in the United States is required.
• One year of full-time satisfactory experience in supervising employees performing project management work (planning, administering, managing, coordinating, or expediting) on engineering, architectural, or landscape architectural projects, or supervising a construction project with a value of $1,000,000 or more.
• Option 1: Baccalaureate degree in a relevant field (engineering, architecture, construction, business, public administration, etc.) and one year of full-time satisfactory experience in project management work.
• Option 2: High school diploma or equivalent and five years of project management experience.
• Option 3: High school diploma or equivalent plus a combination of education and experience equivalent to five years.
• One year of experience credit is given for 30 semester credits of relevant college education, a Master's degree in a relevant field, a Juris Doctor degree, or a valid NYS Professional Engineer, Registered Architect, or Registered Landscape Architect license.
• Experience primarily of a design nature is not acceptable.
• In addition to Assignment Level I qualifications, candidates must have at least one additional year of supervisory experience or project management experience on a large/complex construction project.
• In addition to Assignment Level I qualifications, candidates must have at least two additional years of supervisory experience or project management experience on a large/complex construction project.
