About the Role

The Department of Social Services (DSS) is seeking a Labor Relations Analyst I to serve as a Special Assistant to the Deputy Commissioner of the Office of Labor Relations (OLR). This role involves assisting the Deputy Commissioner and other staff in managing labor relations, resolving disputes, and interpreting contractual information.

Responsibilities

  • Interact with union management to gather information and resolve disputes.
  • Answer questions from union and program management, resolving issues independently when appropriate.
  • Review inquiries from union and agency program management and assist in triaging work.
  • Answer phone calls as needed.
  • Research agency and union issues by reviewing contracts, arbitration decisions, and policies.
  • Make recommendations for corrective action in labor disputes.
  • Assist management with interpretation of contractual information.
  • Obtain assistance from the NYC Office of Labor Relations on Collective Bargaining matters.
  • Provide guidance to other staff members.
  • Organize and prepare meeting materials, including spreadsheets, briefing documents, and correspondence.

Requirements

  • Must take and pass the Civil Service Exam if hired provisionally.
  • Must possess a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college.

  • Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of satisfactory full-time professional experience in labor research and analysis, employee benefit design and evaluation, compensation analysis, labor economics, economic planning, or a related area
  • Education and/or experience equivalent to the above, with a baccalaureate degree required
